This seminar will explore the embedding of evidence based practice (EBP) teaching and learning within and across healthcare professional curricula. EBP is fundamental for safe, high-quality healthcare and therefore an essential component of all healthcare programmes. However, designing and integrating EBP learning opportunities which explicitly and progressively drive student learning is a known curriculum design challenge. A recent Irish HEI review found that EBP was infrequently embedded within curricula (Lehane 2018). In response a UCC-led team recently defined EBP core competencies for health professionals (Lehane 2020). Building on this work, UCD formed an EBP Education Collaborative (EVIBEC) and built on this work, developing a vertical interdisciplinary framework, co-designed with students, that mapped learning outcomes to these competencies and suggested learning activities to achieve these.
